What is your full name?
Amani Azlin.
What is your first name?
Amani.
Where were you born?
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Where do you currently reside and work?
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
What is your educational background?
I obtained a BA (Hons) in Graphic Media Design at the London College of Communication, University of the Arts London.
What are other details of experiences, work or otherwise, that have led you to your current work?
I have worked in video directing, graphic design, fine art photography, and as a creative lead. My circle of friends included people in music and fashion, which led me to opportunities for collaborations and experiments that required the different parts of my interests to merge.
How would you describe your practice/business?
My work is deeply shaped by my artistic practice, inviting a personal and introspective approach to visuals that feels slightly different from my graphic design background, which was grounded in communication and structure. I also run a production company that helps bring fashion and beauty advertorials to life, working closely with various brands by supporting their visual goals.
I am also an occasional image maker who aims to reinterpret Singapore’s past from a postcolonial and feminist lens.
What are the highlight projects in your career so far?
In 2020, I worked on the SUARA KAMAR music video, which was my first experience working with snails. Then, in 2022, the ANAABU Black Series gave me full creative freedom to explore my interpretation of the colour black.
Lastly, my photography work with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) required a completely different approach compared to the usual flashy days on set from my production world.
What are you currently working on?
I am currently working on multiple campaigns for Eid 2026.
