Zia Wycoco

What is your full name?

Zia Wycoco.

What is your first name?

Zia.

Where were you born?

Metro Manila, Philippines.

Where do you currently reside and work?

Pasig City, Philippines.

What is your educational background?

I graduated with a BSBA Marketing Management from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila and thereafter I obtained a Certificate in Fashion Design from the Parsons School of Design in New York.

What are other details of experiences, work or otherwise, that have led you to your current work?

I interned at Folded & Hung in 2012, then gained experience at New York Fashion Week and LBV while I was finishing my course in 2019. Before pursuing fashion school, I worked in various FMCG companies, all while making and selling dresses for friends on the side. That's when I realised I wanted to build a career in the industry. From 2018 to 2021, I was an assistant to the Filipino designer Vania Romoff, which strengthened my practice.

How would you describe your practice/business?

I see my practice as purposeful at its core. Every design starts with a story, a woman, a feeling I want to honour. Beyond creating something beautiful, I want to create pieces that make people feel seen, celebrated and connected to their own moments. That purpose guides how I create, how I serve and how I grow the brand I am building.

What are the highlight projects in your career so far?

I worked on a partnership with Levi’s Philippines just recently, where I designed runway pieces from unused jeans. The project challenged me, and I enjoyed it a lot. Next would be my move to a bigger studio this year. From a small home, our studio is now three times its size when we started, with a team of visionaries working with me. Lastly, I take pride in making bridal gowns for my clients. Each piece is personal and being trusted with such a meaningful ensemble is a career highlight for me.

What are you currently working on?

I am launching a ready-to-wear collection soon! I am excited because I have been dreaming of this for so long.
