Fashion Footnotes: Style Takeover with Patricia Wuysan

Client Advisor at Club21 and Founder of R3GION

Personal style is rarely formed in a single moment. It develops through the items we instinctively return to and the choices we repeat gradually. What we wear may serve as a form of display, yet it is equally guided by function, intuition, and ease. This perspective not only frames how I make wardrobe choices, but also how I interpret others’.

As Art Director at Fashion & Market, I look at fashion beyond garments, focusing on the objects, references, and rituals that shape how we dress and live. In my column, Fashion Footnotes, I explore the intersection of style, culture, and everyday life in Southeast Asia. Each quarter, the format shifts among edited finds, behind-the-scenes perspectives from the industry, and notes on personal style from practitioners working within it.

For this installment, the column shifts into a style takeover, where I invite practitioners from the region to reflect on how they dress and the roles clothing plays in their everyday lives. The first guest is Patricia Wuysan, better known as Tracy. We first met in 2020 through mutual Indonesian friends while I was studying in Singapore. A graduate of Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) with a Diploma in Fashion Design, she now works as a client advisor at Club21, COMO Orchard. Alongside her role in retail, she is currently developing her own brand, R3GION.

Tracy’s way of dressing has evolved over time into something more distinctive and intuitive, guided by statement pieces she revisits and objects that hold personal meaning. In her own words, she shares how these items inform her everyday wardrobe choices.

My go-to look is rooted in black. The skirt, from Noir Kei Ninomiya, is one of my best buys because it is particularly versatile. It can even be styled as a top. It is honestly one of my best buys. I have worn it countless times, and it makes any outfit interesting.

Underneath, I am wearing a piece from Comme des Garçons with a funny dangling detail that adds subtle texture and movement. The outer layer was given to me by a colleague, which makes the look feel even more personal.

On my feet are my favourite Tabi heels from Maison Margiela, which I wear almost every day. They have become part of my identity, I guess. I like this combination because it is simple and fuss-free, yet elevated enough for daily wear.

I recently got married in a dress by Chopova Lowena, which felt deeply personal and meaningful, as I have long been a fan of her work. Wearing one of her designs for such an important day felt special.

I had dreamed of wearing an unconventional wedding dress that reflects who I am. Just as importantly, I wanted a piece I could wear again after the wedding. I am trying to be more sustainable and conscious with my purchases, investing in pieces that live beyond a single occasion. This dress ticked every box for me. I adore it and can already see myself styling and re-wearing it for many different occasions.

I enjoy this look because I am wearing brands I look up to  that are daring, unconventional, and expressive. I enjoy statement pieces because on days when I am feeling a little lazy with styling, they do the work for me.

For the top, I am wearing Kiko Kostadinov. I am trying to be more mindful about investing in pieces that are versatile and long-lasting, and his top fits the bill. It can be styled in multiple ways, creating a different silhouette each time. The skirt is from one of my favourite Thai brands, Matter Makers. The brand feels playful and fun, with a touch of quirkiness at times.

Lastly, the bag is the classic Glam Slam from Maison Margiela. I was lucky to find it at a great price. It feels timeless and chic.

I enjoy pieces that feel fun and expressive. Fun fact: this top inspired me to get a tattoo on my back, which I finally did. There is something about it that feels bold yet effortless. It is from a local Indonesian brand, Saya Tales, and I like how comfortable and easy it is to wear, especially in Singapore’s heat. It is one of those pieces that does not require much styling, yet it works every single time.

I paired it with my favourite shorts from Sacai. They feature an exaggerated wide side pocket that adds an unexpected, almost architectural element to the silhouette. The bag is also from an Indonesian brand, Aesthetic Pleasure. I am a big-bag girl and appreciate something that serves both function and style. This one delivers on both. It is spacious and effortlessly cool.

I might be a little biased, but this is one of my favourite looks, mainly because I am wearing my own brand, R3GION. As someone who enjoys pieces that are playful yet versatile, this top embodies what I gravitate toward. It can be styled in many different ways, which makes it great value.

I paired it with shorts from Comme des Garçons. I appreciate bold, statement pieces because they require minimal effort but instantly elevate the entire look. To finish the outfit, I layered it with a floral vest from Morse, a local Indonesian label. The piece adds a playful touch, bringing texture and tying the look together.

This look is special to me because every single piece was gifted by someone important in my life. It is sentimental from head to toe.

The top and pants were gifts from my classmates at NAFA, who are like brothers to me. The top, from Maison Margiela, was a gift from Joe Kean, while the pants were created by Khairil Asry as his final-year university project, which I proudly bought  for myself. They are also both my partners in our brand, R3GION.

To complete the look, I am wearing Tabi heels from Maison Margiela, gifted by my husband. The entire outfit carries layers of love and memory. The second-hand Balenciaga City bag is also meaningful to me because  it is the first designer bag I bought with my full-time salary. Beyond the sentiment, I like how effortlessly everything comes together. It feels striking yet deeply personal.

Thank you to Tracy for offering us a glimpse into your wardrobe. I hope you enjoyed this edition of Fashion Footnotes. See you in the next one!
