What is your full name?

Jennifer Laurantius.

What is your first name?

Jennifer.

Where were you born?

Jakarta, Indonesia.

Where do you currently reside and work?

New York City, Bali, Jakarta, Singapore.

What is your educational background?

Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design, Academy of Arts University, San Francisco.

What are other details of experiences, work or otherwise, that have led you to your current work?

My path to fashion was driven by a desire to create with both intention and individuality. I founded JVLAURNT, a street and lifestyle brand rooted in circular design, slow production, and creative freedom. Through bold silhouettes and storytelling, I merge street-influenced style with values like identity, ethics, and self-expression. One of my designs went viral during New York Fashion Week, sparking organic demand and connecting me to a global community.

My work has been recognised by CNN Indonesia, the United Nations, and featured in campaigns with Adidas and Keke Palmer. The JVLAURNT/UPCYCLED initiative was spotlighted by the United Nations for its contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals. It reimagines pre-loved garments into one-of-a-kind pieces that celebrate mindful consumption and creativity. These experiences have shaped a practice that is driven not just by aesthetics, but by purpose and collaboration across culture, community, and craft.

How would you describe your practice/business?

JVLAURNT is a multicultural contemporary fashion brand built on circularity, storytelling, and purpose. We focus on slow production and upcycling, transforming pre-loved raw materials and garments into bold, one-of-a-kind and small-batch pieces that celebrate identity, freedom, and creativity. Our work blends street culture, modern art, and Southeast Asian roots to challenge traditional fashion narratives. At its core, JVLAURNT exists to prove that fashion can be expressive, ethical, as well as community-minded.

What are the highlight projects in your career so far?

My JVLAURNT coat went viral during New York Fashion Week, leading to a surge of custom orders and international interest in the brand’s slow fashion/made-to-order approach.

I was also featured by CNN Indonesia, where I shared my journey as an Indonesian designer building a purpose-driven fashion brand in New York.

In addition, I created a batik capsule collection in collaboration with Lakon Store, which is based in Jakarta and Bali, blending traditional Indonesian textiles with New York-inspired silhouettes and styling. It was a celebration of cultural heritage through a modern, global lens.

What are you currently working on?

I am currently exploring a potential partnership with a Washington, DC–based fashion advocacy organisation to help build awareness and engagement around ethical fashion production and policies.

In Jakarta, I am also working on a capsule collection in collaboration with a local fashion entrepreneur community, incorporating environmentally conscious materials as part of a broader effort to align creativity with care and responsibility.

As an ethical fashion designer and certified human rights advocate, I am passionate about continuing this work in the Southeast Asian market. I would love to receive support in connecting with local, like-minded creatives, artisans, and producers who share a commitment to responsible creativity, sustainability, and integrity. My goal is to help build a healthier, more responsible fashion ecosystem that nurtures emerging leaders and puts people and purpose at the centre of creativity.
