Va Sovanpong.

What is your first name?

Sovanpong.

Where were you born?

Phnom Penh City, Cambodia.

Where do you currently reside and work?

Phnom Penh City, Cambodia.

What is your educational background?

I obtained a Bachelors of Arts in Business Administration from Pannasastra University in Cambodia.

What are other details of experiences, work or otherwise, that have led you to your current work?

Before I started Sara Devi, I created another brand called Robthort, which is my main online platform. It combines the concept of a community platform with a focus on selling lifestyle products, including all types of cameras, from film to digital. Since its beginning in 2020, it has grown into an influential creative platform that promotes lifestyle, art, fashion and businesses, all combined through a creative concept delivered as short-form content. Moreover, we created our own exhibition, inspired by the way our designs translate into life, helping our audience understand more about art and the story of Robthort. This journey eventually led us to Sara Devi. The brand was born from a Robthort design inspired by the theme :Sara Devi”which we then developed into Sara Devi, written in Khmer as “សារ៉ា ទេវី.”As Cambodians, we have found that few local brands focus on Khmer cultural design, especially in a contemporary style. This inspired the vision behind Sara Devi. Sara Devi is the embodiment of timeless beauty, fearless spirit, and modern elegance. Born from the legacy of Khmer goddesses, our creations, spanning fashion and jewellery, are designed to empower and inspire, with plans to expand into beauty, skincare and more in the future.

How would you describe your practice/business?

A brand that places the highest value on culture and art, creating to empower and inspire a lifestyle rooted in the brand’s origins.

What are the highlight projects in your career so far?

The first has been building genuine excitement around wearing scarves, reimagined through silkscreen printing and original Khmer, or Cambodian art designs. The second has been growing a community that sits at the intersection of art and business.

What are you currently working on?

Sara Devi is still developing its scarves and overall branding. At present, we are creating more designs based on the season and our wider vision. The next chapter for Sara Devi is fashion: a clothing line defined by a timeless look, modern elegance, and considered design. We believe that Sara Devi itself holds tremendous potential to grow overseas, and we hope it will be recognised as an international brand in the future, especially one that supports the Southeast Asian market while drawing it together towards a global stage.
